Sore throat or itchy throat is a disease of mild nature that causes dryness and soreness to the throat. This causes irritation and difficulty in swallowing of liquids and other foods. When the pharynx, which is located at the back of throat tends to inflame the throat becomes sore. It is an infection of the respiratory system and can also cause dry cough and other diseases related to the respiratory system. The origin of this problem could be viral infection or bacterial viruses.
When we go for a sore throat treatment a throat culture is taken to check for strep throat. Strep throat is also a viral disease connected to sore throat. This problem occurs in both children and adults on an average rate that is equally the same. Most people tend to suffer from sore throat during the winter season. Normally the white blood cells of the body take about a week or more to fight off the germs or viral infection infecting the body but when the sore throat continues to exist it is known as persistent strep throat. There are a number of causes for persistent sore throat. Persistent pain can be caused through allergies. Different people are allergic to different things like pollen, dust, salt, smoking fumes, etc. when the person is open to the elements that make the person vulnerable to the irritants then there is a great chance for sore throat to occur.
Sometimes people have a very poor immune system or there is lack of white blood cells. The body cannot fight off the infection well and so it takes a longer than average time to cure the problem. Sometimes medications and herbal treatments need to be brought in the cure process to get rid of the sore throat. If the sore throat remains for too long a period like more than half a month it could also be a sigh of cancer or aids. Sometimes chemotherapies and other immune reducing medications also tend to affect the immune system greatly and cause problems in curing small diseases.
Common cold, flu, headache and runny nose, viral and bacterial infections are common problems associated to influenza and need a proper treatment. If these are not cured properly they could re occur causing a persistent soreness and dryness in our throat. Living in an area that has a lot of dry and polluted air could also cause you sore throat more frequently than average. Other causes of persistent sore throat could be swollen lymph nodes like the occurrence of the virus infectious mononucleosis, tuberculosis disease and measles. Acid reflux, heavy smoking, tonsils and chicken pox could also be an underlying factor going unnoticed.
If you experience a persistent pain then immediately consult your doctor and go for a treatment. Sometimes nasal sprays and syrups do a very good job. The best way is to have a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet and regular physical exertion. Avoiding smoking and drinking at the same time is important too.
