A perpetual habit of breathing through your mouth can cause dryness of the throat.

Influenza, measles, chickenpox, mononucleosis, coxsackie virus, tonsillitis, gonorrhea, a strep throat, mycoplasma, tumors, allergies, air pollutants, etc can all contribute towards a dry sore throat and the infection can be contagious and most uncomfortable to bear.
When starting out with dry sore throat symptoms, drinking plenty of water might help. If the symptoms still persist, try out some home remedies like mixing a drop of honey with lemon in warm water, using herbal teas for consumption at regular intervals, inhalations with eucalyptus, using lozenges and gargling with warm salted water and when these are coupled with good rest and an easily digestible diet, it can work wonders. However, if the symptoms still continue with fever, it is advisable to seek the opinion of a doctor. Avoiding screaming too much and keeping windows open for too long in cool temperatures, resist from inhaling through the mouth, wearing masks in polluted areas can to a great extent help in the prevention of this problem.
Children are more susceptible to these problems due to under developed immune system and lack of proper oral hygiene training. Also, being forced to study and play in crowded areas can also add to this condition ; hence, increasing their immune levels through proper diet that is rich in vitamin C especially can to some extent prevent the contacting of this infection as also washing of hands frequently with antiseptic soaps and keeping their things clean and fresh. The most important point of all is using a tissue when coughing or sneezing and regularly cleaning the phones, Pcs, televisions sets, mobile phones, refrigerators, keyboards and remotes with sanitizers for good hygiene. These are the commonly used things in any home and these can be the cause of easily contacting this infection if not cleaned properly.
A good, healthy diet rich in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and fats along with regular workouts can go a long way in building up the immune system. This in turn can help in the prevention of these infections and also in fast recovery in case of being affected by this dry sore throat problem. Though there is no immediate remedy for sore throat and colds, as it is the nature of these infections to run their full course of around 1 week, the preventive measures stated above can at least help in reducing the discomfort to a great extent and help you to recoup and recover fast.
